Day 273

el2_273

Denison Witmer was in town the other day, as mentioned, and was generous enough to give me a few minutes to photograph him.

Here's frame one.

Day 272

el2_272

Matt upon realizing just how far Jessica went to surprise him for his 30th birthday. Processing Denison Witmer shots in tonight's batch.

Boo!

What do you think of this?

I'm thinking about trying to make a greeting card series. Something cute like this. I made this when working on another logo at work, and just had a little side play time. If I took it a bit further, thought of a good phrase to go with it, maybe it might be likable enough to sell somewhere?

If nothing else it's something I enjoyed.

Fall Elf Sprite Are Here!

This is a precious a little elf for the Holidays. Most of the ones I was planning to make are for Christmas, but this little girl is for Fall!

I just love all the rich Fall fabrics this year. They are a wonderful pallet of falling leaves and pumpkin shades! I especially like the polka dotted fabric I used on her dress. I added a maze colored print for a collar and topped it with a vintage lace ruffle. Then a satin black bow, of course!

Off to make some more! Happy Fall everyone!

Haunted Houses

I wanted to create a fun, cottage like Haunted House that could hang on any door. I started with a plain piece of felt. I did a drawing of the design I wanted. Next I started making the different parts such as the door, ghost, bat, and my favorite thing...the tree with the little stuffed owl!
Hope you enjoy the pictures!

Day 266

el2_266

Here's a true rarity. It is a lit (lighted?), sports-related portrait. This is a random outtake for a shoot that will be on stands in October, I think. I feel it's safe to throw and outtake on here since hardly anyone sees this blog..and its online existence hardly ruins a one-page spread for a local magazine.

Day 259

el2_259

Yet another from Caleb's wedding. Just love 4x5 so hard.

Kitties and Pumpkins...Oh MY!

How is it that the weekends go so fast? I blinked and it was Monday. I was able to at least organize my materials and cut fabrics for a few orders this weekend. But it went way too fast.
It is finally cooling down a bit here at the beach. I just can't take those 95 degree days for long. Being from N.Y. I guess I could never get used to the high humidity and temps. Trust me I do not want the kind of cold weather we had in Buffalo where I grew up! But a nice cool day is great when we can sit outside without melting.

So this weekend when Katie was playing, I sat and worked on this little kitty & Pumpkin necklace.

Day 258 - Rosa Loves

el2_258

A great way to start a new week!

For those of you unfamiliar, there is an organization called Rosa Loves who does remarkable and admirable work helping people all over the world...all by selling tshirts. They find organizations and individuals all over the place (seriously...ALL over the place) and figure out their needs and design shirts based around the specific project.

I recently had the pleasure to photograph two of their new designs and the first launched today!

A young Kosovar man in who goes by Koki had the good fortunate to find the ear of Rosa Loves and will now be getting help on funding his education so he can help give back in his local community of Roma people. You should check out the whole story over at their site.

They launch another shirt I shot later in the week. I'll mention that when it is out.

The above is one of the shots I enjoyed from the shoot.

Day 253

el2_253

This is a shot taken around the time of stephen's poptpop (below).

©Stephen DeVries

Okay, so here is a cross-post for the day. I like this shot, but it was Mostly posted for the sake of it being what was being shot during a 4x5 on 4x5 POPTPOP (see the website for a larger image as well as other Pictures of People Taking Pictures of People).

I'll copy/paste from today's poptpop.

Oh man. History has been made!

The first 4x5 poptpop! Caleb got married to Laura this past Saturday and I shot a bunch of 4x5 for them, and so did Stephen DeVries. And he was responsible for the first, to my knowledge, large format Picture of [Me] taking a picture of [Caleb and his Groomsmen].

AND HOT DAMN IT ALL LOOKS GREAT!

By the by, Bryan is totally flipping Stephen off.

Also, there was a HUGE pre-and-post PopTpoP-off. More to come!

Day 252

el2_252

4x5 number one from Caleb's wedding. There are at least 7 I am very excited about.

Me & my Kitty

Almost forgot my kitty picture!

First Day of School

Well, tomorrow the students are back to school. Teachers were back last week in Virginia Beach. We have classes to take, classrooms to set up, and copies to make. It is a lot of work.
I am all ready, except for a few seating charts I will finish tonight when my daughter goes to bed.
It was a strange summer, good, but strange! I was on a few textbook committees, I had a class to take. Then our air conditioner died, my car battery died, I broke my Blackberry...it was odd! I did not rest and sleep in. I got up and worked on my dolls and my Etsy shop.
When I got back in the classroom last week, it felt good. I felt back on schedule. It will most likely change tomorrow and I will wish we were back at the beach!
I had a wonderful time with my husband and daughter. We had so much fun together all summer.
It will be hard to see her walk into her 3rd grade classroom tomorrow morning...where did my baby go???? And my husband will be at another school for part of the day this year. (We have worked together for ten years).
So there are adjustments to make, but I am excited to see those smiling faces, well most of them at least. I teach art, and it is Middle school, but most of them smile!
So I am off to Fall...here are some last minute photos of what I am working on and me and my cat Macy. Happy Fall everyone!

Day 250

el2_250

Another Japan poptpop in honor of today's wedding. Caleb & Laura got married today at an amazing place in Leeds and I REALLY wanted to develop it tonight i am just too tired. poptPoint is there was a HUGE poptpop-off marathon today shooting the girls. Bryan was shooting the girls, devries was 4x5ing that, paul was shooting bryan shooting the girls, i was shooting all of that, and branden was 8mm'ing all of THAT. AND! I think Alan was in on it too..I just can't remember.

I'm hoping for nothing short of Epic 4x5s from this wedding.

Caleb decided to do it in an interesting way. He grabbed a bunch of people he knows who take pictures (though perhaps not everyone he knows, as I think everything was practically double covered) and had them each take a part. I shot the guys, and few frames of them together right after plus two frames of family/wedding party. 19 frames of 4x5 (one got jacked in the holder. misloaded. oh well), a roll of lomo, 2.66 rolls of 1V and two rolls of rollei. pretty sure it was an all-film wedding which is exciting.

And GOD the MUSIC was unreal.

Shots from that as soon as asap. Stephanie just moved here TODAY (woohoooo!) and will be settling in for a few days no doubt, but I'm planning on cramming the developing in sometime really soon.

P.S. — 250 days into Electric Lion mark ii. weird.

Day 249

el2_249

Another random one from Japan.

Caleb gets married tomorrow.

Stephanie moves to Birmingham tomorrow.

I get to shoot 4x5 tomorrow.

Lots of good things happening this weekend.

The above shot was from just walking around Tokyo with Nicole. It was somewhere near the fish market area, but I don't remember exactly where. Anyone know Japanese?

Amy Stein

A reminder of how awesome Amy Stein's body of work is... I'm looking forward to even more.

Maybe the most interesting is her project called "stranded" take a look at the map. For me, this is very interesting to see where all of these photos were taken, some of them are very close to home in terms of location for me.
