Saint Patrick's Day Doll
Here is a little Leprechaun just ready to celebrate Spring. She is 11" tall and made from a variety of fabrics. I am trying some new fibers for my dolls hair. I have been buying batting from some wonderful Etsy shops. Most of the batts are wool, silk and Angelina...I love the sparkle.
Let me know what you think!

Day 053
I had a few leftover polaroids from a shoot on Saturday so I snapped a polaroid (technically fuji instant film fp100) or two off of me, for posterity I guess. Anyway I used it as a challenge to take a self portrait with a very shallow depth of field. I imagine that fact is boring.

Day 052
This is one of those shots I'm draw to but don't rightly know why. Some subtle energy to it or something. This is at the Bodondo Clinic.

Mermaids at the Beach
Living in Virginia beach is exciting. It is so different from where I lived in New York. After years of shoveling snow and freezing in Amherst New york I wanted a change. Virginia Beach was that change. It is a clean and beautiful area. And the beach is like magic. The sunsets are so powerful with their rich pinks and purples. A day at the beach is a day full of fun for our family!
I love the summers here, but there is something so peaceful about visiting the beach in the winter when only the locals are making footprints in the cold sand. I like to go there to think and get ideas.
So as a tribute to this beautiful area...here is my latest creation. Made from silk, felt, vintage and new materials. Enjoy!

Day 048
Another group shot. This time at the home garden of one of the women who volunteers at the Allen Stone Clinic in Bujagali. This is her family, including kiddos, and parents. Her husband is not present, but it isn't because he died of AIDS, as is pretty common, sadly. In Sarah's case it is that he was pretty awful to her and their religious beliefs also were splitting and she couldn't be with him any more, so she packed up the kids and headed out. I have audio of her story somewhere. Talk about courage...she seems to have it (especially in her context)..

Day 047
too much media.
MEDIA OVER LOAD.
I like using twitter, but honestly when someone posts too often in the day, I'm taking them off my list. At first I wanted to add anyone and everyone who i could learn from, or get inspiration from, as well as friends, family, big people, small people. But now when there's so much on there, that I can't keep up with that as well as my regular e-mail messages, and we're not even starting on google reader lists. I never will keep up with that one. I'm on the cusp of becoming a modern person - or something. But I wonder if it's too much to handle. Am I getting old!?
How do all of these busy and rising professionals have time to keep up!
- While working AND making great work?!

Day 045
Paul + Rose + their kids + other kids who stay at their orphange. This is a group shot in the road right after their church service the morning we left. Its funny how strange they look to me in clothes that aren't brown and ripped.

God. Look at this freaking hair. She is fully amazing and I think I love her. I think I derailed there at some point.
Shooting later tonight but it is totally a secret.

Wednesday
Was an hour late for work because I didn't push the snooze button on my alarm. I had a dream about the cup. I think Casey Hardigree was holding it but it was much larger than normal, and I was trying to take a picture.
Recorded a penguin commercial at a radio station. It will be on the TV spot ive been working on!
Press checked the cover of a big project that has a photo I took full bleed on the cover. Pretty exciting!

Day 042
This guy...this guy is sweaty. I'll note that not 10 feet from him was a kid working at the corn mill wearing a woolen beanie.
Shot today: Two 4x5 polaroids of Bob. I like them.

Tonight
Ate fancied ramen noodles and watched part of garden state with drew, then we went shopping at target for a really long time.
I bought an insanely large rainbow striped towel that I plan to utilize to the fullest this summer.
And then had an hour and a half long, much needed, phone conversation with Adam. I feel a lot better about life in general.

Day 041
So I realized I've been slacking on the details part.
Today I took only one frame. I took it of Shawn / Sean (not sure) whom I met through Allison whom I met via Bob.
I'm tired. Kevin is back in town.

Day 040
Here is where I ate dinner one night. This is the Nile. Well, technically the White Nile, which is a source out of Lake Victoria (just south of where I was) for the Nile that everyone knows. It's nuts to me to think that water runs to the Mediterranean.
Kind of cheesy but man it is pretty.

Family matters and dolls
It has been another busy week. Between having 135 new students, and let me say they are wonderful. I am so lucky to be at the best school in Virginia Beach! My students work hard and put so much effort into their work.
On my off time I am always busy with my little 7 year old Katie. She too is a creative little one. She is making her own Valentine's this weekend using wiggly eyes, glitter and crayons...not to mention feathers, yarn and scraps.
Today I listed a new bunny doll on Etsy... www.mommylion.etsy.com
Take a look!

Valentine's Dolls
Here is another little "Heart Beat" doll. Just listed on my Etsy shop. I have a new hairdo for this doll. I used a beautiful wool angelina blend that I just purchased. I love working with it!
Her face is embroidered and she has a beaded dress. She holds the key to your heart as well as some flowers. Flowers and hearts are used for her little shoes. Enjoy!
Day 032
This is Ruth, one of the girls living at the orphanage where DIG has helped develop a garden. Said orphanage is called St. Paul & Rose after the husband/wife team who run it and who have four kids of their own mixed in with the family—which is how they really live...as a family. All told 26 people sleep in their tiny little place, at least during the school year, all of whom are given year round farming education by Paul. He was telling me about how you can be educated fully in Uganda and still not ever find a job, so to that end he teaches all the kids things like agriculture, cooking, and crafts/handiwork so that they will always at least be able to take care of themselves and their families. Pretty freaking smart.
Ruth is striking.
