Long Island City circa 2007

Long Island City - Pepsi Sign (before they moved it)

Digging through old images...found this one of the Hunter's Point neighborhood in Long Island City, Queens. The Pepsi sign has been since moved and that site is the future site of the Queens Library.

Something about this shot was eerie to me and felt sort of like it was older than I am...so here it is.

Caleb & Laura

Caleb & Laura looking up

Caleb & Laura in New York in May. Caleb assisted me on the job I was shooting there and Laura came up for a weekend to hang out with him. I enjoy this shot (which I guess is obvious since I'm blogging it?)

Polaroids in DUMBO

polaroids on the grass

Yep...polaroids on the ground in dumbo.

I'm getting a bit behind

brian in dumbo back in may

Brian Murphy in dumbo when I was in New York in May. He's on his phone, in case you were wondering (which is unlikely as it is pretty obvious. Why did I write any of this?)

Day 339

el2_339

Weird. Flickr was just in Chinese for me, until I clicked the English link. On both computers. Whatever...it's back now.

I'm still sorting through everything from the weekend i spent with these dudes. I have my first wedding since that weekend in a couple of days and I'm quite interested to see how it goes with my new brain installed.

I may not get to post while out of town. DC bound tomorrow and shit it's gonna be cold.

Day 324

el2_324

So I went up to New York for a photo retreat with this lot here. John Dolan, Holger Thoss, and Philippe Cheng put on a nice little shin dig up in the Berkshires with a pretty killer crew. Not pictured is my new favorite person in life, Anne Watkins. She does amazing water colors. Hard to explain. Check out her flickr stream.

More from Long Island City.

Day 319

So I've been gone. I've been in New York and this is the view from my sister's neck of the woods. She lives in Long Island City near the shore of the East River. For a larger view, if for some reason you require that, click here.

It's Ok My Dear

"For the romantic, adventurous, precious, and rare woman of a fantastical daydream."

Ashley Cheeks is the designer behind It's Ok My Dear. I don't know about sewing, but I do consider myself a lover of women's clothing. What she's been doing is a stand out, and it's all together pretty, unique, and adorable, but also a little daring - and definitely quirky.

Please do treat yourself, and check out her other fashions on Etsy! You'll fall in love!

And it doesn't hurt to have amazing photo work to showcase her pieces!

Day 087

el2_087

In honor of Bici Co-op's bike cleaning day, here is an old bike skeleton from New York. I'm just glad it is not white. Those are sad. This one is just down on his luck.

Day 027

el2_027

Today was a long day to be sure. I head home tomorrow. I'll get home, in theory, the evening of the 29th.

Nerd note: I shot all my 120 film. Only shot maybe 5 or so rolls of 35mm but all the 120 is shot and that's exciting to me. film-mas on the way!

Day 022

el2_022

So I am here. Things so far are going well. Today was the first day of shooting which was at the Budondo Clinic where they test people for HIV/AIDS as well as have a regularly functioning hospital (by small-town African standards. Basically they do stuff other than just HIV/AIDS) and this place is the home of one of the DIG gardens. Met a bunch of great people who have an amazing heart for helping others, which, according to Patrick (runs parts of the clinic), is not an especially African trait.

That sentence was way long. I'm starting new down here.

Hello

So getting here was quite an experience. It was as expected, but with less sleep. Got in to Entebbe around 830 am local time yesterday morning and by the time we were halfway "home" I was falling asleep in the car. I slept from 5 pm to 8 pm, ate dinner, and went back to bed until this morning around 730. I know these details are not all that important. Just saying I was totally beat.

I'm going to try to attach a couple of photos from today to give a sense of the people we dealt with.

Day 016

el2_016

This is Holger Thoss.

I am simultaneously whelmed, underwhelmed, overwhelmed, stressed, calm, and eager despite procrastination.

Finalizing things for the trip. Laundry MUST be next. After my shots anyway.

Day 015

el2_015

So. Its Thursday (well, technically at the time of me writing this part of the post its the wee hours of Friday) and I leave in just a couple of days.

I assume that I mentioned I am going to Uganda for a bit to work with DIG. I leave on Monday and won't get there until Wednesday (local time).

I had planned on enumerating some sort of list here and now but it has left my brain and I will now go to sleep.

New York photo stitches

This is a setting on my camera, the photo stitch assist. It guides you by showing the previous photo you took, so you can take the next one and not get too far off. I love the effect though, and in college when we did the David Hockney project where we put all the printed photos together, it was, and still is my favorite of all time. I really should get photos printed more often and do more of these.
